Types of Insulation

Vacuum Glass Lined Servers:

Carafes with vacuum glass liners hold temperatures for the longest periods.  A vacuum is created between the double glass walls by removing all air and then sealing the wall.  The empty space (with no air) insulates the contents inside, keeping them hot or cold for many hours. Coffee stays hot for over 12 hours in a Hormel vacuum glass lined server, and ice water stays cold for over 20 hours.

You can tell the difference between a good quality and poor quality vacuum glass liner by simply looking inside the carafe.  There should be a line of rings going straight down to the bottom.  Coloration, while it may vary, should be uniform. Every little imperfection or mark on the glass lessens the quality and heat retention.  Imperfections also weaken the glass, thereby making the glass liner excessively fragile.  Hormel vacuum glass lined servers are among the best in the world when it comes to heat retention and durability.

 Plastic Insulated Servers:

Our famous Connoisserve insulated beverage servers incorporate this newer technology.  These carafes are made with an ABS plastic outer body and a polycarbonate inner wall.  Liquid polyurethane is injected between the two walls.  This allows this insulation to mold to the shape of the carafe and fill all the space between the two walls.  Other companies simply insert a piece of styrofoam.  The polycarbonate inner liner is dishwasher-safe, stain-resistant, and odor-resistant.  Unlike vacuum glass lined servers, plastic insulated servers are dishwasher-safe and unbreakable. They still hold beverages hot or cold for 2-4 hours, which is usually enough for most people.

Stainless Steel Insulated Servers

This method of insulation is incorporated into our Camel brand insulated servers. The idea is very similar to the plastic insualted servers. There are two walls of stainless steel, with a layer of polyurethane insulation between them. This makes these commercial quality high-end servers virtually unbreakable, and even dishwasher-safe. These serverscan hold liquids at their original temperatures for 2-4 hours.

Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Servers:

This new method of insulation is incorporated into our new Stainless Steel Vacuum Airpot.  This functions the same as the glass vacuum insulation, keeping beverages piping hot or ice cold for 12+ hours. The main benefit of this modern method is that there are no glass parts to break.
